Burnham National Rounds 8/9 Report

The forecast looked awesome...and it most definitely was!
Racing Saturday and Sunday in temperatures above 25 degrees!
Friday evening practice was a breeze, taking it easy and getting most things out of the way, once the 3rd straight was done and dusted; all that was left to do was race it.

Saturday morning practice came and it was already a touch on the warm side, once again most riders taking it easy and concentrating on the first straight power from the gate saving their energy for the racing Saturday afternoon.
Come race time, the sun was blaring and with only 16 riders in 19+, the moto’s would be no easy stride, with a straight A final place every qualifier was a semi-final.

Ipswich’s Robbie Goodman took the win in 19+ and also from Ipswich Shaun Andrews unfortunately clipped out after a great snap which left him fighting to come back from 8th down the first straight and he managed to get back to take 6th place.

Junior and Elite Men/women were to race Saturday night for double points under flood lights and the temperature had cooled down nicely which was fortunate because Elite men were on fire!

Latvia’s Artus Mattisons took a major wide line in the first corner in the Elite Men main but his sheer strength propelled him down the 2nd straight unlike anyone had seen before and after a near miss with a Dutch rider in the 2nd corner he went on to take the win...which not to mention offered a generous £1500 and a UCI pro gate prize!

Ipswich’s Ria Goodman took 2nd overall in Junior Women

Sunday practice started a little later because neither junior men and women or Elite were racing. The heat was on once again as not a cloud appeared in the sky!
19+ were initially to have 18 riders on the Sunday but due to a couple of bad crashes in the class from Saturday, 3 pulled out, which left them with one less rider than the day before, so once again every qualifier counted!
Shaun Andrews took 4th and after Robbie had been winning his qualifiers fluffed the final and finished 7th.

The weekend at Burnham has been dubbed the best event so far this season and we hope the remaining events will be just as fantastic!
More awesome weather please!!
